Who we are & What We Do

2002 – Founded ASIA, The Journal of Culture & Commerce, the first English Language newspaper for Asian Americans in Southern California
2004 –
Launched  the first Asian Heritage Awards at Point Loma Nazarene College in San Diego
2006 –
Produced the Asian Heritage Awards at the University of San Diego Joan Kroc Institute for Peace and Justice, recognized by the City of San Diego as a vital force in bringing together the community, Asian Heritage Society created as a 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation
2007 –
San Diego Press Club honors the Asian Heritage Society with its Public Service Award
2008 –
San Diego Press Club Public Service Award for the second year; Asian Heritage Awards becomes nighttime gala; Asian Heritage Society recognized by the White House. Asia Media Inc. becomes the only ethnic media to receive 5 major Press Club awards
2009 –
Asian Heritage Awards becomes partner with the U.S. Navy
2010 –
ASIA, The Journal of Culture & Commerce, goes digital
2012 –
BOOSTEM program for middle school females created; BOOSTEM recognized by Chief of Naval Operations and California Superintendent of Education
2013 –
Rosalynn Carmen and Len Novarro receive the City Of San Diego Human Relations Commission Award for Diversity in the Media; Asian Heritage Awards celebrates a decade of excellence
2014 –
Make It In America launched as conference; Renoo’s Ranch founded to help teenage girls with AIDS
2016 –
Society hosts first virtual reality conference in San Diego and produces first and only VR rendering of the Vietnamese American experience
2016 –
Society hosts conference bringing together Vietnamese Americans and Vietnam veterans. Asian Heritage Awards focuses on the Vietnamese American experience.
2017 –
Asian Heritage Society’s founders produce “Pho For The Soul: The Vietnamese American Experience.”
